A brief overview is given of the status of the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO) large heavy water Cherenkov detector intended for the observation of solar and supernova neutrinos. This detector offers the potential of obtaining qualitatively and quantitatively new information about these neutrinos and their sources.
