The submillimeter telescope for Salyut 6 is being designed for the measurement of radiation emitted by the earth's atmosphere and by cosmic sources. This paper presents an overview of telescope design, giving attention to the overall setup, the optical system, the active cooling system, the amplification and recording system, and the control system. The basic engineering characteristics of the telescope system are presented.
