A study of the structure of natural ELF electromagnetic fields in the Arctic Ocean is described, with attention given to measuring methods and equipment, and the data processing procedure. It is confirmed that earth-ionosphere waveguide excitation processes make an important contribution to the generation of such ELF fields. The propagation characteristics of ELF electromagnetic fields in the Arctic Ocean are determined and discussed.
