Red galaxies contain most of the stellar mass in the nearby Universe, but their star formation histories remain poorly understood. Here we summarize recent work by our group: (1) velocity dispersion is the driver of stellar populations, suggesting an internal process; (2) low-mass galaxies are ``young'' and that (3) they are best fit by a star formation history that is either a single burst, or quenched at intermediate times. We also show that the cluster environment does play a weak role for giant L* galaxies, apparently by quenching the disks in S0s and early-type spirals. For red-sequence dwarfs, however, the effect of the cluster environment is very strong.
