Rapid variations of luminosity and its spectral characteristics show that Nova Cygni 1975 is a very fast nova. The paper examines the spectrum in the pre-maximal stage of luminosity which is characterized by the absence of lines, except some large diffuse absorption lines which are hardly visible. After maximum luminosity the absorption lines reveal no structure, but the emission lines show several components.
