The Sondrestrom Upper Atmospheric Research Facility is located near Kangerlussuaq on the West Coast of Greenland (66.99°N, 309.05°E) at 74.2°N invariant latitude. The centerpiece of the facility is a 1290 MHz incoherent scatter radar with a 32 m fully steerable antenna. On site are also two facility lidars - a Rayleigh/Mie lidar for middle atmosphere studies of noctilucent clouds (NLCs), polar stratospheric clouds (PSCs), temperatures, density and gravity waves, and the sodium resonance lidar for mesosphere / lower thermosphere studies of gravity waves and the dynamics and chemistry of sporadic layer formations - and two state of the art all-sky imagers. The facility is also the host for more than 20 other instruments with PIs from other institutions. In this talk we will discuss some of the science opportunities made available by taking advantage of the location and the diversity of the Sondrestrom Upper Atmospheric Research Facility.
