The equatorial plasma bubble activity is significantly affected by the F-region plasma density, F-peak height, and the vertical ExB drift. We investigate the solar cycle variation of the bubble activity and the bubble characteristics by using the two dimensional bubble images retrieved from the nightglow images of OI135.6-nm from TIMED/GUVI. We also investigate the dependence of the bubble occurrence on the geomagnetic activity, and the intensity and hemispheric asymmetry in the background plasma density. The global bubble distribution obtained from TIMED/GUVI is compared with the observations of ROCSAT-1, DMSP, and CHAMP satellites. The characteristics of irregularities during solar minimum is investigated by using the CNOFS satellite data. We discuss the driving mechanisms of bubbles during the solar maximum and minimum period based on the bubble occurrence pattern.
