A technique based on the use of the maximum likelihood method is
proposed as a means of selecting groups of stars in six-dimensional
space (three coordinates and three velocity components). It is applied
to a sample of 68 long-period Cepheids. Sixteen groups consisting of 2-9
stars are obtained, the background containing 25 percent of the stars.
