The Giotto Extended Mission (GEM) is examined in terms of the spacecraft's encounter with Comet Grigg-Skjellerup and the expected data products from available instrumentation. The review describes reactivation requirements, the adjustments made for Giotto's earth flyby, and cometary parameters of the Jupiter-class object. The Giotto spacecraft is expected to intercept the comet 12 days before it reaches perihelion 2.14 x 10 exp 8 km from the earth.
