Scientific paper

The most salient results of theoretical models of nova explosions are
summarized, and the many problems that are still unresolved are
discussed. In particular, thermonuclear instabilities, thought to lie at
the base of the nova explosion phenomenon, are analyzed both for perfect
gas and degenerate electron gas.
