Simultaneous measurements of magnetic field variations at low latitudes (Dst index) and the position of the magnetopause, or solar wind pressure, make it possible to differentiate between the effects of currents at the magnetopause and in the ring current. In the present paper, a differentiation of this type is carried out for the 1967-1969 period of maximum solar activity and for the 1971-1972 period of decreasing solar activity. The dependence of the current field at the magnetopause on solar wind pressure during these periods is studied.
