A main motivation for string theory, and quantum gravity more generally, is to gain analytic insight into extreme physical environments. As such, cosmology is a potential treasure trove of contacts between theoretical studies and realistic applications. Recently, string cosmology has become an active area of interest, with progress being made on a number of fronts. We will review some of these developments, drawing particular attention to those research programs in string theory/quantum gravity that may be of relevance to future space based observations
