I describe recent progress in studying the configuration space of string theory, and in constructing models with calculable potentials for the moduli fields. Better understanding of this subject has given us an increasingly complete picture of how the various string constructions all fit together in a web of vacua. I then focus on recent progress in constructing models with few or no moduli, including some which can describe accelerating Universes (deSitter space), and discuss how some of the conceptual issues of deSitter quantum gravity, like the occurence of Poincare recurrences, are addressed in this framework.
