A piston model of coronal transients with forerunners is developed and evaluated. In this model, a forerunner is formed as a spherical piston (consisting of a small amount of plasma ejected from the solar surface into a closed magnetic region) moves slowly outward prior to the main ejection. The model is described mathematically; numerical simulations are performed; and the model is shown to predict the observed configuration, kinetics, and dynamics of these large-scale transients with reasonable accuracy.
