The parsec-scale radio jet of the peculiar superluminal quasar 4C 39.25 is studied. Different observing epochs at 1.3, 2.8, and 3.6 cm are analyzed, and maps clarifying the structure and kinematics of 4C 39.25 are presented. The source consists of a curved jet. A new component is detected at 1.3 cm which is a plausible candidate to be the 'core' of the radio source. The structure of a superluminal source is analyzed in terms of shock waves traveling along a supersonic jet. A geometry and a set of physical parameters that reproduce the structure of 4C 39.25 are reported.
