The outer Galactic disk appears to have experienced a very different chemical evolution history than has the solar neighborhood, based on recent analyses of [Fe/H] and [(alpha)/Fe] for eight old open clusters with R_GC > 11 kpc, as well as three outer disk field stars and about two dozen outer disk Cepheids. The expected metallicity gradient disappears and the abundances of the lighter elements, produced in Type II SNe, rise relative to iron. The results may be interpreted as evidence of a Galactic disk that has grown significantly with time, probably by infall of metal-poor gas, or that the outer disk has accreted one or more small, metal-poor galaxies. Either interpretation requires data for additional clusters whose ages and chemical abundances and abundance patterns can be determined. The targets should belong to the outer disk, but have similar Galactocentric distances to explore scatter in [Fe/H] and [(alpha)/Fe]. We request time here to observe two red giants in each of four old open clusters with R_GC ~ 14 kpc.
