An experimental bound on the optical activity of intergalactic space is obtained for radio waves on the basis of radio-frequency polarization data for extragalactic objects tabulated by Clarke et al. (1980). The expected magnitudes in some theoretical models are then evaluated theoretically. It is shown that the present bound on the rotatory power, although extremely small by laboratory standards, is not small enough when compared to theory to give useful results. It is suggested that perhaps similar methods could be used in the visible region, leading to better bounds.
