Emissions from the O2 atmospheric band system with V-prime not greater than 5 have been identified in auroral spectra, contrary to the previous belief that only bands with V-prime not greater than 2 were present. The intensities of the observed bands, referred to I (5577), have been determined for medium intensity aurora. Excitation mechanisms involving energy transfer from O(1S), N(2D), and O(1D) have been considered.
