The Nuclear Science Wallchart has been developed by scientists and teachers working together through the Contemporary Physics Education Project (CPEP). The chart presents the modern view of the nucleus and descibes basic tenets of radioactivity and nuclear energy. At the same time, it ties these basic ideas to modern research, including topics in relativistic nuclear collisions, nuclear astrophysics and nuclei far from stability. In addition, applications of nuclear science are explored. A supplementary Teachers’ Guide discusses these topics as well as areas such as fundamental symmetries, accelerators and radiation in the environment. This talk will focus on the ties between the wall chart and contemporary research topics in nuclear science.
