The orbit of comet P/Brooks 2 during its close encounter with Jupiter in 1886 is investigated, taking into account perturbations from the nine planets, Galilean satellites, and Jupiter's oblateness. The contact of the comet with Jupiter and its ejection from Galilean satellites and from Amalthea are excluded. The minimum distance between the comet and Jupiter during the encounter was found to be 0.00094-0.00098 AU. During the encounter, the comet's motion occurred in osculating Joviocentric ellipses.
