Mars Pathfinder is under development at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) as a low cost model for future NASA planetary missions. This mission provides NASA with a valuable test case to validate innovative mission operations concepts, alternative technologies for planetary landers, versatile flight/ground system architectures, and, equally important, a development approach representing a fundamentally new paradigm: the mission's End-to-End Information System (EEIS).
