We describe the physics capabilites and status of the MIPP experiment which
is scheduled to enter its physics data taking period during December 2004-July
2005. We show some of the results obtained from the engineering run that
concluded in August 2004 and point out the unique features that make it an
ideal apparatus to study non-perturbative QCD properties.
