Equatorial distributions of energy, current, and magnetic field disturbances, along with equatorial ion distributions, have been determined by solving the initial value problem for an ion drifting in a dipole magnetic field and convection electric field. Results are presented for hydrogen and oxygen ions. It is found that these two ring current carriers differ significantly in the growth time, amplitude, and sign of the disturbance created.
