We propose simultaneous HCN and HCO+ observations towards the two main molecular cores of N44 in the LMC. Using Spitzer data, we have a unique dataset of massive protostars in the LMC. With ATCA data, we can address the two large questions "Where is the dense molecular gas?" and "What is the relationship between molecular cloud properties and YSO masses?" With the details of the compact molecular gas in N44, i.e., the morphology, spatial distribution, masses, and velocity, we will be able to place the massive protostar into the context of its environment and better understand the star formation process. Many of the problems studying massive star formation in the Galaxy are mitigated in the LMC because of its known distance (50 kpc), nearly face-on orientation, low foreground extinction, and high level of star formation activity. We focus on the two main molecular cores of N44 that have a high surface density of YSOs and a variety of star formation environments, i.e. superbubble, ultracompact HII regions, small HII regions, and optical O-type stars.
