The software which is currently being developed for the Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) of the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) will be described. SWS is a 2--45 mu m spectrometer containing two independent gratings and two Fabry-Perot's. A spectral resolution of ~ 1000 to ~ 20000 can be obtained. Software is currently being developed for the acquisition, calibration and analysis of SWS data. This software is firstly required to run in a mode without human interaction in the ``Pipeline," to process data as they are received from the telescope. In the Pipeline the software is required to work properly within the environment designed by the European Space Agency (ESA) for the spacecraft operations. For testing and calibration of the instrument as well as for evaluation of the planned operating procedures the software should also be suitable for use in an interactive environment. Thirdly the software will also be used to characterize the instrument. To be able to use the software modules for all these three purposes, interfaces have been designed such that the modules can be linked with both the Pipeline data interfaces as well as with MIDAS table interfaces for use in Interactive Analysis.
