The results of calculations of the ionization equilibrium of the interstellar gas, affected by diffuse ultraviolet and X-ray radiation, in the temperature range 104 - 105K are presented. It is shown that in this temperature range the charge-transfer reactions play an important role in the ionization balance. Under these conditions the absorption lines of C IV, Si IV and S IV observed in the spectra of nearby stars can be formed. The calculated column densities of N(C IV), N(Si IV), and N(S IV) are in agreement with the observations.
