The structure and the dynamics of protostellar envelopes are investigated. It is shown that when the stellar core luminosity reaches a certain critical value the collapse is reversed. The dynamics and the stability of the envelopes at this stage and the maximum masses of forming stars depend on the accretion rate. The necessary conditions for massive star formation are considered.
