A numerical investigation of the six major nonhydrostatic gravity anomalies is presented. The values of the gravitational potential and its derivatives at the discrete points are employed to derive a set of mass points that generates the gravitational fields at the observed points. The masses are evaluated for their effect on the oblateness of the earth, which is cited to have a hydrostatic flattening of 1/299.67. The negative anomalous potential and gravity are found to be caused by a lower density heterogeneity. Compensation is produced by a higher density body below the negative sources, thus smoothing the gravity field. Although the anomaly disappears, the potential coefficients of degree N=2 and N=4 are possibly perturbed when the anomalous center is located between 35 deg and the pole. It is shown that the Canadian, Siberian, and Indian anomalies are counteracted by the sources of the Australian, North Atlantic, and South American anomalies
