The critical points of the cosmological Bergmann-Wagoner field equations are determined. Three critical points are found, one of which is an analogue of the De Sitter solution in general relativity. A study of the stability of this ``De Sitter'' solution shows that the solution is, in general, unstable to perturbations of the dynamic quantities in scalar-tensor theories. Consequences for coupled scalar-tensor theories of gravity and inflation are discussed.
