Based on X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric data, the mixed-cation
sulfate-chloride minerals kainite, blödite, and polyhalite are more
stable than hydrated ferric sulfates and are reasonable combined
reservoirs of S, Cl, and H2O on Mars.
