This paper discusses the gravitational instability of a non-uniformly
rotating, infinite, axisymmetric cylinder of a homogeneous, heat
conducting medium. It is found that the Bel and Schatzman criterion of
gravitational instability remains unaffected, even when the medium is
heat conducting.
