The interaction of penetrating streams of charged particles in the transition region of the solar wind at a distance of 10 - 20 Rsun from the Sun is analyzed. It is shown that a Cherenkov instability of kinetic Alfvén waves can develop in this region with an increment γ ≡ 10-1s-1. The energy of the excited turbulence of the kinetic Alfvén waves is transmitted by means of induced scattering to the thermal protons. The temperature of the solar wind protons increases by 20% as a result of dissipation of the turbulence of kinetic Alfvén waves for characteristic parameters of the plasma of the transition region.
