The generation of kinetic Alfven waves by super-Alfven proton beams in flare loops is examined. It is shown that these beams can excite kinetic Alfven waves, which disperse well due to the kinetic effect of Landau damping. It is suggested that the excited waves may be an effective heating mechanism for coronal loop plasma. According to this model, the plasma will be heated mainly at the loop bases.
