The intrinsic demographics of blazar jets is poorly understood, and yet that is an essential first step toward understanding how Nature produces and powers jets. We are addressing this problem by developing a new large sample (600) of blazars, the FIRST Flat Spectrum Sample (FFSS), designed adopting a set of selection criteria ensuring the maximal possible representativity of all sub-classes of sources.
