The paper presents a brief overview of the EU project DEISA, the Distributed European Infrastructure for Supercomputing Applications. We describe its vision, mission, objectives, infrastructure and services offered to the e-science community. The DEISA Extreme Computing Initiative for supercomputing applications is highlighted, and four grand-challenge projects of astrosciences simulations are presented: modeling of turbulent astrophysical flows, simulating the Local Universe, turbulent, active, and rotating stars, and simulating the formation of the Milky Way.
