In June 1988 an extensive experiment was conducted on the translucence of the transition region of the solar wind from subsonic to supersonic flow. Five sources were used simultaneously to extend the sounding to more distant regions in circumsolar space. It was shown that the extent of the region of formation of supersonic flow is greater than previously assumed.
