A review of the modern state of gamma-ray astronomy is represented. The information about processes of emission and absorption of gamma-quanta as well as observational results is given. In a soft energy range (≤10 MeV) where gamma-ray line emission dominates the authors discuss the origin of gamma-ray bursts, the source in the galactic centre, etc. In the VHE (Eγ ⪆ 1012eV) and UHE (Eγ ⪆ 1015eV) ranges they treat the origin of point sources such as enigmatic Cyg X-3. Mainly, this review is connected with the analysis of the problem of cosmic ray origin based on the gammaray data in the energy range from several tens MeV to several GeV. The authors discuss here the cosmic ray gradient calculations from gamma-ray data, generation of high-latitude gamma-ray emission, gamma-ray half of the Galaxy, etc. They present the models explaining the origin of unidentified gamma-ray sources, theoretical estimations and observations results of the gamma-ray flux from SN 1987A.
