We report initial results from our photometric and spectroscopic survey of the periphery of the Large Magellanic Cloud. We have discovered an extended population of the LMC that reaches 20 kpc from the LMC center and follows a de Vaucouleurs profile. These stars are twice as distant as any previously found LMC stars and indicate that the LMC might be much more massive than initially thought. The LMC disk shows a radial metallicity gradient out to 12 kpc. The more distant LMC stars exhibit a bimodal metallicity distribution with some metal-poor stars ([Fe/H]=-1.5) but a dominant population of fairly metal-rich ([Fe/H]=-0.4) stars. It is possible that these metal-rich stars are substructure in the LMC halo.
