The paper considers the expansion of the force function of two arbitrary finite bodies whose elementary particles attract each other (gravitationally) with a force proportional to some extent of the distance between them. The general structure of the expansion is examined and a complete expression is given for the first terms of the series to the fourth order inclusive. Two particular cases are examined: that where both bodies posses three planes of symmetry, and that where both possess axial symmetry.
