Although methanol masers are known to be excellent tracers of massive star formation, and especially of their kinematics and geometry, it is still unclear exactly which conditions and structures the masers trace. In order to investigate this, we propose to observe the dust and/or radio continuum related to four methanol maser sources for which we have astrometric VLBI data. The observed compact structure and kinematics of these masers seems to indicate where the exciting source should lie, although none of these have been detected convincingly. By associating the methanol masers with either dust continuum or (hyper) compact HII regions, we will set constraints on the physical structure in which the masers arise, as well as the evolutionary stage of the central object(s).
