Contrary to the assertion of Kharkov the exact equivalence of the n-wave procedure and the renormalization of the physical constants is demonstrated with the help of dimensional regularization. The vacuum energy density of the spin-1/2 field in the Friedmann universe is obtained and its mass dependent part is shown to be negligibly small compared to the background.
