The time variation of star formation efficiency is calculated during the formation of a star cluster from a giant molecular gas cloud. The final form of the mass spectrum of a cluster is also found at the time of gas dispersal for different values of the parameters. It is found that under certain parametric conditions, a cloud can form a bound star cluster and the low mass fragments form significant fraction of the total stellar mass at the time of gas removal.
