A method is presented for the modelling of the site response from the deconvolution of local earthquake recordings. The Green's function for the propagation medium is obtained by using the assumption of minimum phase propagation for a stratified absorptive earth model as deconvolution criterion. The application of this technique to theoretical data shows that local synthetic seismograms can be deconvolved with high accuracy.
The site response for an actual site (BHB) in the Swabian Jura, southwest Germany, has been estimated by integrating over a number of Green's functions, obtained for different incidence angles, thus enhancing the effects of the superficial layers and reducing the effects of the deeper structure.
The comparison between accelerograms modelled with the obtained average site response and an observed accelerogram yields a good fit in peak and RMS acceleration and strong motion duration.
