A discussion is presented of the Podgorny et al (1980) estimates of the values and distributions of the magnetic field in the tail of Halley's comet, which have been criticized by Ershkovich (1981) on the grounds that the gradient of the pressure is neglected. The present reply to this objection justifies the neglect of the pressure gradient in view of the presence of the transverse acceleration of the plasma condensation toward the tail axis, which shows that the pressure gradient of the plasma surrounding the condensation is less than the acting electrodynamic force.
