Penetration of the electric field from the solar wind into the Earth's magnetosphere along open lines of force of the IMF is examined. An open paraboloid model of the magnetosphere is used. For a southern direction of the IMF, charts are plotted of the convection in the polar caps and in the current layer of the tail of the magnetosphere. The dimensions of the region of open lines of force at the magnetopause, the potential difference through the polar cap, and distances to the neutral line in the current layer are found as functions of the magnitude of the undisturbed magnetic field. The magnetic flux through the region of open lines of force at the magnetopause is calculated.
