Scientific paper

A theoretical investigation of the viscous-friction mechanism of the
generation of electric fields in the geomagnetic tail is presented. It
is shown that under quiet geomagnetic conditions this mechanism can
explain the basic morphological features of electric fields and plasma
motions in the tail.
