Scientific paper

Data from several Antarctic stations are used to study the effect of variations of IMF and solar wind parameters on vertical profiles of electron density in the polar ionosphere. An analysis of the profiles made it possible to determine the boundaries of various types of convection cells. In addition, an empirical relationship was obtained for the level of midday ionization at the F2-layer maximum at a given invariant latitude for 05 h UT.
