The properties, structure, plasma flow, and instability of the subsolar magnetopause are discussed. The characteristics of tangential and rotational discontinuities and their roles are outlined. It is shown that the signatures of the 'flux transfer event' discovered using the ISEE 'mother-daughter' spacecraft pair support the subsolar reconnection process and the associated plasma flow.
