Dissolved copper concentrations at five stations in the eastern Atlantic between 20 and 24°N are presented. The metal is depleted in surface waters with concentrations ranging from 1.1 to 1.7 nmol/l. Marked increases in concentration were found in near-bottom waters with levels up to 10.9 nmol/l; these are attributed to the release of dissolved copper from the surface sediment.
