Individual vertical profiles and north-south sections for the distribution of the δ13C of total dissolved inorganic carbon are presented for the Atlantic stations of the GEOSECS program. In most cases the δ13C data parallel the distribution of dissolved O2. Differences are attributed to in-situ oxidation of organic matter and dissolution of particles of CaCO3. Antarctic Bottom and Intermediate Waters have a δ13C value of near 0.5‰ relative to the PDB isotopic standard. The lowest values in the Atlantic ocean were found in the Antarctic Circumpolar waters which have δ13C values as low as 0.2‰. The core of the North Atlantic Deep Water has a δ13C value of 1.0‰.
